Russell Brand’s current tour, ‘ReBirth’ has been cancelled with immediate effect
The popular British comedian and activist Russell Brand has cancelled the remainder of his ReBirth tour after his mother, Barbara, sustained “life-threatening” injuries in a car crash.
The crash took place on Friday, and had already lead to the short-notice cancellation of Russell’s show in Aberdeen. Until today, it was not made clear what the extent of Barbara’s injuries were.
In a candid video posted to his Twitter account, an understandably emotional Brand explained that his mother has sustained “numerous life-threatening injuries” in the crash. His mother, with whom Brand is very close, is a cancer survivor who had finished her programme of chemotherapy only a month ago.
Brand went into depth on his emotional state, and informed his fans that tickets would be refunded, and that shows will “possibly” be rescheduled at a later date. However, he added that he “could not imagine” performing, due to the gravity of the situation. You can view the video in full below.
Thanks for your kind messages.

A friend of the comedian, who he names as Tas, was also involved in the crash, having been driving at the time of the accident. Brand says in the video that he is recovering well.
Brand also praised the “importance and significance” of the NHS, and said it had previously saved his mother’s life six times following her cancer diagnosis. He added he would take a break from social media to focus on his family.
The tour had a number of dates remaining in large venues around the UK, in cities such as Manchester and Sunderland, but none of these dates will now go ahead.
We at Karibu would like to wish Barbara a full and speedy recovery, and hope for the best for Russell and his family at this difficult time.
